About
Richard “Rick” Shriner, CAC III has recently joined A New Outlook Counseling Services team. Rick has been working in substance use disorder services for over 15 years. He studied Behavioral Science at the University of Oklahoma where he majored in psychology and sociology.
After moving to Denver, Rick obtained his addiction counselor certification, CAC III, working with the University of Colorado, ARTS Department, Peer 1 Therapeutic Community. He worked in the Peer 1 residential treatment program as well as the Outpatient Therapeutic Community, for over 14 years.
Rick endorses a client-centered, strength-based model of therapy, and focuses on a cognitive behavioral therapeutic approach to treatment. Rick believes that supporting his clients through positive reinforcement, empathy, and compassion is essential in building a strong counselor-client therapeutic relationship, which in turn will help his clients on their road to recovery.
Rick’s immediate family consists of his wife of over 30 years, a Siberian Husky, a Border Collie/Chow mix, and a Basset Hound. Rick enjoys spending his free time with his family in the mountains camping, fishing, and hiking, or on a golf course playing golf with a friend.
Although familiar with all variations of substance use disorders, Rick specializes in opiate dependency treatment. In lieu of the current “opiate crisis”, he encourages anyone suffering from opiate addiction to contact his office for a start towards freedom.
