About
I work with the Gottman method and with family systems theory, including an understanding of what each partner brings to the partnership from their family of origin. My goal is to understand each person's side with empathy for their dilemmas, including what their part may be in the conflict. We then use that understanding to help the couple find a way to communicate more constructively and have ongoing dialogue around areas of conflict. If affective regulation is an issue, we work with helping both partners to be able to regulate their emotions and manage them, including turning to the partner for connection. When partners are inadvertently reinforcing other's fears and negative beliefs, we address this and work to change patterns so both can feel supported by the other.
