I view marriage as a psychological,emotional, physical, and spiritual sense of connection and without that sense of connectioon a couple are not married even though they had a wedding and a legal marriage license. Likewise, a couple who have not married legally but feel intimately connected, I would treat as a married couple. A couples sexual relationship should be mutually fulfilling.

My model I use with most all couples I work with I would label as "connection therapy." I have the couple work on an issue in their relationship that brought them to therapy. Initially, they will not talk to me and I will not talk to them. They will talk to each other about an issue in their relationship and try to resolve it without me. Through my trained observation, I will get a psychological MRI and at some point in the interview I will feed in my insights into what prevents them from working through their issues and what they do that keeps creating issues. My approach will focus on how well they are connected and what they are doing to negatively effect their being better connected. The goal would be to get them better connected and more in tandem with what they want their relationship to be.
