Andrew A. Briefer
About
I work with adults, adolescents, couples and families addressing the challenges in creating a satisfying and meaningful life. Often times we can feel stuck in our lives, using coping and relational skills that served us in the past, but like outdated software, these skills no longer serve us as we have matured, as our circumstances have changed or as we have developed relationships with others who bring a different relational culture. This sense of stuckness may lead to depression, anxiety, addictions, compulsions and/or relational difficulties that leads people to work with me.
Relationships shape our ways of managing mood, emotion and behavior. Relationships even impact the physical development of our brains. I use numerous proven therapy approaches, including attachment, Gottman therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based therapies in the therapy relationship to help you develop skills to achieve a grounded resilient happy connectedness.
In your work with me, we will explore the patterns of your current distress, seek to understand how those patterns might echo past experiences and identify how you can learn and master new skills to achieve your goals, whether they relate to mood, behavior or relationships.
